SUBSEA PRODUCTION SYSTEM FOR HYDROCARBON FIELD EXPLOITATION

Objective

To study and design an underwater production system for the exploitation of hydrocarbon fields in 1,000 m water depth.
The underwater production system has been designed for 100,000 bbl/day and is composed of:
- Two large, parallel cylindrical underwater modules held by their weight on the sea bottom. The modules are sandwich structure (steel, concrete steel, overall thickness 1 m, diameter 14 m, lenght 170 m) which provide housing to the full remote control process plant, manifold, etc.
- A monopile, a slender tensioned structure providing a permanent structural link to surface.
- The topsides where power generation and 40 people living quarters and flare are located.
The production scheme foresees remote wellheads, oil treatment inside modules and sealines to shore. No loading point at surface.
Process plant operates inside modules in atmospheric pressure, inert gas environment and without human presence except for maintenance (every 2 months on average). Maintenance crew operate using masks. Link to surface is provided by a shuttle module running along a rail placed on the monopile. An emergency module is provided on bottom, independent from the sandwich vessels, which ensures 7 days life support for maintenance crew.
Construction and installation procedure have been defined and costs estimated.
The system can be built in existing shipyards and is transported to site in three parts: modules, momopile, topsides.
Extensive model test have been carried out to validate sandwich vessel computer programs.
The configuration is easily adaptable to different water depths and production rates.
The concept has been precertified by DNV.
The project is subdivided in the following phases:

- definition of the system configuration
- design of the system components, definition of the installation and operative procedures, design of the interfaces with other subsystems necessary for the field exploitation
- design, construction and test of critical component models.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
