CONCRETE PLATFORMS FOR ARCTIC CONDITIONS

Objective

To develop concrete gravity designs for production platforms in arctic regions, based on the experience already gained in the north sea.
Study of the exploration programme and forecasts, environmental conditions and ice properties followed by discussions with operators and government agencies to determine requirements. Design experience has been used to formulate outline designs for platforms for oil or gas production in the beaufort sea and the scotia shelf and grand banks area.
Due to the evaluation of commercial demand, further detailed work as proposed for phase 2 has been deferred.
The project is in two phases.
Phase 1 :
- state of the art study - has been to investigate the precise requirements for platforms in the arctic regions and how to extend the existing design concepts by the application of concrete technology already proven in the north sea. Phase 2 :
- will then prepare a detailed design proposal and economic evaluation of one or maybe more particular applications.
