Objective
To develop techniques for exploiting offshore hydrocarbon reservoirs by a fully underwater system and to specify a production system.
This study has enabled the privileged field of application of an "all underwater" system to be defined : distance from the coast less than 200 km, depth of water above 200 m, in zones where the cost of surface installations is high; in addition, the advantage of such a system is all the more evident, the more severe the conditions of environmemt, the smaller the relative size of the reservoirs and the higher the proportion of gas in the effluent.
The combination of knowledge and essential results thus acquired has enabled the development programme of an all underwater hydrocarbon deposits operating system known as POSEIDON to be defined (contract no. TH 03164/84)
The work consisted of :
- a parametric study to evaluate the economics of the project by comparing the operating costs of a resevoir with an "all sub-sea" configuration and those obtained with a "conventional" configuration;
- the definition of a study case in the preferential field defined by the economic evavaluation study; the technical contraints set for this study case were selectedto cover all the problems liable to occur on this type of application;
- a study of all subassemblies forming the system in order to reveal the technological node points;
- elaboration of mainguide plans for the subsea station and modules fulfilling all the required functions (valves, remote control, electric power supply, grouping of production, pumping...);
- examination of pipeline operating problems. In particular, general solutions have been proposed for a sorting remote-controlled high capacity yard of scrapers for the pipeline connection system to the subsea station and in order to combat the internal corrosion of the pipeline.
