RECOVERY FROM VERY SMALL FIELDS STUDY

Objective

The study objective was to consider methods by which a small reservoir of
8/10,000 barrels per day throughput and having a 5 year life could be developed at minimum capital expenditure.
The project has shown that the Flexible Riser and Mooring System (FRAMLS) is an economical method of developing a 10 m bbl oil reserve in the Central North Sea.The subsea buoy and 60000 DWT tanker, suitably converted for production purposes, have sufficent uptime to be economically attractive. In severe weather the production tanker disconnects from the FRAMS mooring and either leaves the area for discharge at a European port, or waits on suitable weather to re-connect and restart production. The simple swivel-less connection offers a cost-effective means of providing fluid paths for both well fluid and water injection.
A study to explore the hypothesis that the use of a buoy/tanker system could offer significant advantages for the development of small reservoirs and could reduce the time span between project start and first oil export. The project comprises two phases, the first studying a number of design options including a Britoil developed Flexible Riser and Mooring System (FRAMS). This system embodies a flexible riser conveying well fluid and injection water, and envisages using standard flexible flowlines. A simple deck-mounted connection unit on the vessel bow mates with the flexible riser. The second phase of the work will enhance the selected basic design concept to achieve a reduction in the technical complexity of the novel untried components. A parametric study on field size and throughput is also included.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
