PLATFORM CONCEPT FOR MARGINAL FIELDS

Objective

The purpose of the project is to improve the economy of production concerning hydrocarbons from marginal fields in the North Sea shallow waters and to decrease the field size limit for economically viable field developments.
A number of options has been considered resulting in the identification of the concepts of a light weight jacket and a monotower remotely controlled from a central production platform.
In order to enhance the oil recovery as much as possible, several production features have been considered :
1. Conventional process with oil/gas separation.
2. Hydraulical/electrical downhole pumps.
3. Multiphase pumps.
Each of the three features have been studied in connection with the two different support structure options.
A parameter study of the six options has been carried out in order to achieve a knowledge of the susceptibility due to oil reservoir characteristics, distance to central production platform, crude composition, environmental and soil conditions.
For each of the six options a cost estimate has been performed and used as a point of view in an overall economical evaluation with special emphasis on the Danish taxation model.
The most economical viable options on the basis of the chosen design criteron are :
- a light weight jacket
- a hydraulic downhole pump
- a multiphase export pipeline
- power supply via subsea cable.
The project is carried out in 2 phases :
- Conceptual phase evaluating the economical and technical feasibility of different concepts of free standing conductors and innovative chemical process plant associated with light weight jackets distinguishing between oil and gas field applications.
- Preliminary design phase developing preferred concepts of the free standing conductor and the light weight jacket within certain ranges of the flow rates, gas to oil ratios, water depths etc... .

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
