Objective
The aim of the project is to develop in the laboratory processes based on water soluble polymers in order to reduce in a selective manner the water production in production wells without affecting the oil or gas production. Application on a high temperature production well preferably in offshore conditions.
Phase 1. 1
- Two original processes, one based on a hydrolyzed polyacrylamide, the other on a non-ionic polysaccharide were compared in order to solve a real field case. Polysaccharide type polymers were found to resist better than polyacrylamides to elevated temperatures and to mechanical degradation. Numerical simulation showed that it is preferable to inject the polymer near the oil water contact zone rather than through existing perforations at the top of the oil zone.
Phase 1. 2
- Field handling and injectivity of a non-ionic polysaccharide were tested both on field cores in the laboratory and on an abandoned well in order to chose the best conditions to perform a real field case. Results of the fiel injectivity test are presented. Feasibility studies were performed in the laboratory in order to select the most performing process for a field operated by ELF -AQUITAINE. Two processes developed by the partners and two competitive processes developed by service companies were compared . Finally our process 2 was selected for the field applications
. Numerical simulations were performed and pointed out to the treatment of a well producing oil having a lower viscosity than the previously selected one.
Phase 1. 3
- Feasibility studies of process 2 treatment for a high temperature , high salinity oil producing well in offshore conditions.
Phase 2
- Preparation, design and implementation of a process 2 treatment on BARBIER 16, an oil producing well operated by ELF AQUITAINE in offshore conditions.
The injection of water soluble polymers in producing wells is one of the most performing processes for reducing water production. The process consists in adsorbing in the vicinity of the producing wells a given amount of polymer capable of considerably reducing the water production without affecting the oil or gas production
. As water production from reservoirs presents different characteristics both, of reservoir rock composition and permeability and also of produced brine salinity and temperature, it is proposed to search for the appropriate solutions for various environmental conditions and to apply them on producing wells. Indeed, existing processes, based mainly on crosslinked polymer systems are considered to reduce in a great extent the oil or gas production and are applied indifferently on all cases of excess water production independently of reservoir characteristics.
