SUBSEA WELLHEAD SEPARATION SYSTEM

Objective

To design and develop a subsea separator for offshore oil fields
.
To fabricate a Pilot Unit to demonstrate the technology.
To operate the Pilot Unit under realistic conditions to demonstrate its viability.
The first phase has shown that the concept is viable and economically attractive compared with other methods of small field development. The second phase has shown that the unit can be operated to produce required separated products of gas, oil and water.
The project will be carried out in two phases.
The first phase produced a conceptual design for a unit suitable for a range of small N. W. E. C. S. fields with typically 10,000 bbls/day production and a field life of nominally 5 years.
The second phase will be the design, building and fabrication of a Pilot Unit and the demonstration under realistic operating conditions of this unit.
The initial concept was a three stage unit which was subsequently developed into a two stage unit to separate oil, water and gas. For cases where flaring is acceptable, a floating flare design has been developed. The separated fluids are pumped to a tanker or nearby platform.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
