Objective
The aim of the project is :
a) the development of an autonomous multiwell production system for hydrocarbons fields including the fabrication and testing of an underwater power generator prototype;
b) development of elastic waves signal transmission technique for system controlling
c) development of a diverless guidelineless technique for integration and maintenance operations.
The system is autonomous i. e. the use of an electrohydraulic umbilical cable is not foreseen being the system controlled by signals transmitted by means of acoustic waves through the flowlines inside the transported production fluid and being powered by an in-situ power generator based on a electric turbogenerator driven by the production gas.
The main results expected from the project are :
- Development of the topology of a production or manifolding template in order to rationalize and simplify inspection or light maintenance operations for presently existing vehicles.
The development of a heavy maintenance system consisting of a vehicle and suitable working tools capable of satisfying the requirements of a guidelineless, multiwell, subsea system and suitable to operate even within a "closed" template architecture.
- Identification and development of a control technology with autonomous power generation and signal and command transmission via flowlines.
- Definition and design of the autonomous control system, and testing of critical components : namely the in-situ electric power generator (the development of such generator exploiting for energy conversion the gas flow of field production fluid in a turboexpander configuration, allows to have technological spin-out in various field of applications also outside the offshore one).
This research project involves the development of the sub-systems of the submarine production plants, which can be installed and maintained without guidelines, and suitable for the exploitation of oil and gas fields in water depths up to 1000 m, but also valid from an economic point of view for medium deep waters (200-500 m).
It is a modular system which, utilizing the same basic modular components, can be set up in two configurations : the production unit and the manifold unit exhibiting for both configurations an autonomous behaviour capability. The research project is carrying out of :
- The design of the entire submarine production system, installation/maintenance procedures and modules (with the integration of technologies and equipment derived from S. A. F. project);
- The design and development of an autonomous control system.
It will also include the realization and testing of an underwater power generator prototype.
The project to utilize as far as is possible and compatible with the particular requirements of a multiwell production system, those components developed as part of the S. A. F. project (master vehicle, modules, and equipment) financed by the E. E. C. for a single production tree allowing an extension of the S. A. F. concept to a more complex and multifunctional systems.
