Objective
To evaluate an old, abandoned oil reservoir in Central Italy through geophysical, geological and drilling investigations.
To study rock and oil samples obtained from drilling in order to evaluate the potential of alternate (cyclic) steam injection and production as an EOR process in this fractured carbonate reservoir rock. To carry some cycles of huff-n-puff in order to validate the study.
The description of the structure from seismic interpretation (Phase 1) was of an highly faulted and very dipping (gt. 60 deg.
) reservoir.
The main consequence of such result was the availability of a very limited number of drilling locations for the two wells forecasted to run the steam injection project. All possible locations were duly inspected on-site, taking into account the space needed for a safe drilling. Many of them were eliminated, because of the orography of the zone, morphologically highly irregular. The few locations remaining were marginal with respect to the reservoir
. The high risk to drill out of the structure and the impossibility to deviate the wells because on the shallow depth (max 200 m) added to the risk of technical failure of the experimental programme. Therefore the project was abandoned.
1. Shooting of shallow seismic and interpretation in order to evaluate the shape and dipping of the structure and to locate the best position for the wells to be drilled.
2. Drilling of two wells, coring and sampling of the fluids. Production testing of the wells.
3. Study of reservoir rock and fluids and lab evaluation of the potential of alternate (cyclic) steam injection.
4. Carrying out of some cycles of steam injection in at least one well and interpretation of the results obtained.
5. Preparation of the final report.
