EQUIPMENT OF A SPECIAL SHIP FOR SOIL INVESTIGATION

Objective

To equip a special ship for soil investigation.

Components of the total system
-drilling equipment
-in situ investigating equipment (penetro meter).
-geophysical equipment
-vibrocone equipment
-ship "berliner tor"

Drilling device and coring equipment for unconsolidated sediments were developed. Experience in solid rock could not yet be gained.
The penetrometer has been carefully tested and modified.
The geophysical equipment is a combination of precision-echosounder, side scan sonar, boomer, sparker and a digital system. The system has been tested and is operational. The development of procassing-programmes has been finished.

Two vibration devices ("kieler hammer" and "senkowitch") have been tested on the coring device winch that will be installed and are operational.
The ship "berliner tor":
Tests, sea trials and mooring tests have demonstrated that the ship suits very well for use in the southern part of the north sea.
