A VERSATILE MULTIPURPOSE SUBMERSIBLE FOR REMOTE CONTROL OR DIVER ASSISTED PERFORMANCE

Objective

To specify, design, manufacture and test a submersible system for universal application in the construction, inspection, maintenance and repair sectors of the offshore industry.
The tests in bergen, norway were carried out during may 84 under the guidance of det norske veritas. The system generally performed as specified and intended, and a statement to this effect was issued by DNV.
More results will become steadily available as the system progresses through final trials during the second half of 1984.
Applications for the system are in:
- Exploration drilling
- subsea inspection observation; cleaning; no destructive testing; potential measurement; riser and pipe inspection
- construction platform installation; subsea completion systems; loading buoys; pipeline surveying; pipelaying; pipeline completion; pipeline the ins
- maintenance + repair cleaning; welding; anode changing
Other additional applications can be found in military operations (e.g. torpedo recovery) and marine salvage.
The component parts of the david system are the submersible vehicle, the deployment device, the umbilical handling system, the surface control station and the power supply unit.
The submersible unit can be either remotely operated from the surface control station or locally by the diver working on site. The vehicle has highly developed control and navigation system and carries both equipment for remote controlled inspection duties as well as power tools and test equipment for use by the diver.
Other facilities include an arrangement for docking onto a subsea structure and a moveable platform for use by the diver. Norwegian conpanies took part in the activities as subcontractors.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
