INTEGRATED INTERVENTION SYSTEMS FOR SUBSEA PRODUCTION EQUIPMENT

Objectif

The objective of the IISSPE project is the development of a new generation of Subsea Production Equipment. The design of the subsea tree and its associated equipment will be performed with regard to the demands of maintenance and intervention by Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Tooling. The project will design, manufacture and test the techniques and interfaces which are required to perform effective intervention. The project brings together oil companies who specify subsea equipment, a manufacturer of production hardware and an ROV operator to perform maintenance intervention.
The aim of the project is to produce subsea production equipment and subsea maintenance systems which will result in lower operating costs for subsea production developments.
Underwater tests were conducted in September 1989 in 10 metres of water where the following tasks were conducted :
- Choke Valve Replacement
- Control Pod Replacement
- Wing Valve Replacement
- Pressure Sensor Replacement
- Temperature Sensor Replacement
These tasks were all 100% successful, demonstrating the full range of work achievable with the intervention system.
Since the submission of the previous report, the Deep Water Trials have been conducted. Prior to conducting the trial, the equipment wa fully tested onshore.
The onshore testing highlighted several technical problems arising from the length of time the equipment had been unused and unforeseen areas from the design work.
The Deep Water Trials were limited due to the abnormally severe weather experienced. The R.O.T. required adjustments to control system to compensate for depth but otherwise the project equipment functioned correctly.
The final meeting of the project Technical Advisory Committee has been held, decidingthat the project is completed and has fully met the aims and objectives as set.
Design, manufacture and testing of equipment was undertaken as described by the following project phases;
Task Series 1000 - SUBSEA EQUIPMENT APPRAISAL
Study present applications of Subsea Production Systems. Compile a comprehensive list of all functions which may be required in a subsea system and establish intervention priorities. Compile a detailed specification of the project subsea system and intervention tasks.
Task Series 2000 - INTERVENTION SYSTEM
Outline design of interfaces between ROV and tree. Design of an ROV toolskid and heavy lift facility. Interfacing and control of the intervention equipment. Launching and operating criteria.
Task Series 3000 - COMPONENT TOOLING
Outline design of several key intervention tasks. Design of the tree component functions and the associated tooling requirements.
Task Series 4000 - SUBSEA SYSTEM DESIGN
Arrangement of the Subsea Production Tree for intervention. General arrangement of components for access and system considerations.
TaskSeries 5000 - DETAIL DESIGN
Detail design of the intervention system, tooling and handling equipment. Detail design of several key subsea components. Design of a dummy tree.
Task Series 6000 - MANUFACTURE
Manufacture of a fully operational subsea intervention system and a representative dummy test tree.
Task Series 7000 - FUNCTIONAL AND SHALLOW WATER TESTING
Onshore functional testing of the subsea intervention systems.
Shallow water testing of the subsea intervention system.
Confirmation of the project objectives
Task Series 8000 - DEEP WATER TESTING
Deep water testing of the intervention system to confirm deployment methods and performance at operational depths.

Programme(s)
