TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT REGARDING OFFSHORE EXPLORATION AND PRODUCTION OF OIL AND NATURAL GAS

Objective

Automatic processing of side scan sonar pictures to obtain more rapid and more precise results.
The feasibility study gave good results: the dynamic of the picture is sufficient. The rapidity of the processing (5 to 30 seconds with 35 x 35 cm picture) is satisfactory together with the resolution which is 0.7 millimetres.
It is possible to identify peculiar forms such as pipeline, wreck, or the totality of the picture with all recorded details (sea bottom features, geological information, etc.).
- photograph of the sonar picture taken through a cross ruled screen, detail by detail:
- identification and interpretation of the various forms based on the different types of shades (64 types of grey) as well as on the geometry of the shapes:
- restitution: automatic correction of perspective of the picture.
