VEROLME LIQUIFIED NATURAL GAS CARRIER

Objective

Development velrome LNG carrier.
Part 1: ship
Softwear design work has been completed to provide the basic data for any future detailed design work to be done by a yard. A model (1:42 scale) was tested and extrapolation made to determine the required horse power. Manoeuvrability was tested giving good results.
Part 2: Cryogenic system
The results of this development are listed below:
- general arrangement
- cylindrical container lay out
- container details (pipelines, stairways, platform, manhole, ASO)
- supporting grid
- load and discharge diagram
- piping general arrangement.
Lloyd's has accepted the lay out of the cryogenic system underneath the desk. Furthermore, "large-scale structural analysis" was performed by Lloyd's and the behaviour of the integrated containment system was found to be satisfactory.
The project envisages the development of a very large gas carrier over 3 000 000 m3. The design will consider already proven concepts.
- The hull of the ship is of conventional container shal design, adapted to the need of the cryogenic containment system and to the requirement of shallow draft.
- The containment system consists of several vertical aluminium cylinders. The project is devided into 2 main phases:
Part 1: ship
- remaining basic development of ship hull
- model testing a ship hull
Part 2: cryogenic system
- design of cryogenic containment system
- 3d structural analysis
- design of ancillary cryogenic equipment
- design of operating equipment
- model testing and construction of model and related equipment.
