Objective
This project will develop and test autonomous vehicle control and driver warning systems to support drivers especially in critical situations (danger of collision). The system, which builds on results from previous European research activities, will demonstrate collision avoidance warning and emergency interventions mechanisms acting along the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. On the basis of user requirements, which will also take into account the needs of elderly and disabled drivers, demonstration vehicles incorporating technologies such as microwave radar and computer vision will be built. The project will also examine the achieved benefits in terms of increased safety and will consider issues related to the future market introduction of such systems.
