ECHO developed a prototype value added service for the collection and distribution of marine electronic navigational charts (ENC). This improves safety at sea and makes navigation much easier.
A prototype of a commercial value added service has been developed and demonstrated for the automatic delivery of Electronic Navigational Charts to ships. The system supports world-wide navigation of ships equipped with Electronic Chart Display Information Systems (ECDIS). ECHO also developed software and hardware sub-systems for ECDIS manufacturers in order to enhance their systems to support this added value service. ECDIS is the state of the art in ship navigation equipment and will be made commercially available world-wide.
