MULTI-MODAL INFORMATION AND TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS ON TRANS-EUROPEAN-NETWORKS

Objective

The dual purpose of INFOTEN is validation and demonstration of a multi-modal communication backbone for private and public traffic and transport information service in regions of the southern and eastern area of Europe and a public network of interoperable traffic information centres in the central and northern area of Europe to enhance the results of previous research. The communication backbone focuses on on-line telematics applications for intermodal transregional information for value added services on trans-European air, sea, rail and road networks in a public and private partnership. The public network between information centres will exchange relevant information between authorities so as to coordinate traffic management and to provide end-user information via collective dissemination media.

In the context of the European Commissions' global concept for a common strategy for sustainable mobility it is the first objective of InfoTen to develop a multimodal communication network within and between regions of Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland as backbone for private and public traffic and transport information services and to interconnect Regional Traffic Information Centres operated by pubic authorities in the Central and Nothern Area of the EU to enhance existing interconnection prototypes which have been developed in the framework of DRIVE-I and the ATT-Programme, namely STRADA, EURO-TRIANGLE and INTERCHANGE, with respect to an overall interoperability (subproject Intermatrix).

This backbone network is mainly used to demonstrate and validate in public and private partnership on-line telematics applications for intermodal transregional information for value added services on Trans-European (Air, Maritime, Rail and Road) Networks. In Intermatrix the backbone is also used to exchange - between authorities - information on the present and expected traffic situation relevant for the interregional coordination of traffic management and for end-user information via collective dissemination media.

The second major objective of InfoTen is the building and validation of multimodal information demonstrators as value added end-user services making use of the interoperability of the InfoTen network. These demonstrations are

- Fixed Information Terminals

- Personal traveller assistants and

- Companion the road-side warning and information system.

The validation of the demonstrators will be based on a rigorous experimental design taking into account user needs carrying out technical analysis and impact assessments.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
