Objective
TO PROVIDE GUIDELINES TO ENABLE TEXTILE AND GARMENT MANUFACTURES IN THE EEC TO IMPROVE THE FABRIC SELECTION, FIT OF GARMENTS AND USE OF AUTOMATIC EQUIPMENT.
RESEARCH WILL BE CONDUCTED IN 4 MAIN STAGES:
STAGE 1
DEFINITION OF THE GENERAL FRAME OF FABRIC TRIMMING INFLUENCES ON GARMENT SHAPE MODIFICATIONS AT THE STAGE OF CONCEIVING PROTOTYPES AS WELL AS THE AUTOMATIC EQUIPMENT WHICH HAS TO BE DESIGNED AND ADJUSTED TO ALLOW FOR MAXIMUM PRODUCTIVITY.
THIS STAGE HAS TO BE CONCLUDED BY THE ELABORATION OF AN EXPERIMENTATION PLAN, WHICH SEEMS QUITE COMPLEX BECAUSE OF THE INTERACTION OF THE VARIOUS CRITERIA TO OBTAIN A GIVEN RESULT. FOR INSTANCE: ELASTICITY, STIFFNESS, FRICTION COEFFICIENT ETC.
COMBINE THEIR ACTION TO CREATE THE SAME RESULTING CONSTRAINTS WITH REGARD TO THE DRAPE OF A GARMENT AND TO THE DESIGNING AND ADJUSTING OF FEEDING DEVICES ON AN AUTOMATIC MACHINE.
STAGE 2
STUDY OF THE RELATIONS BETWEEN FABRIC CHARACTERISTICS AND MANUFACTURING CONDITIONS, EQUIPMENT DESIGNING AND ADJUSTING. THIS STAGE WILL BE ACHIEVED IN 2 PARTS: FIRSTLY THE BRITISH CLOTHING CENTRE WILL EXAMINE THE CHARACTERISTICS ESTABLISHED BY STAGE A REGARDING WOOL FABRICS AND WOOL BLENDS. AT THE SAME TIME, CETHIH, AIDED BY VARIOUS LABORATORIES OF THE "INSTITUT TEXTILE DE FRANCE" AND SEVERAL FRENCH TEXTILE SCHOOLS, WILL CARRY OUT THE SAME WORK ON OTHER CURRENT FABRICS. SECONDLY, THE HYPOTHETIC RELATIONS WITH THE MANUFACTURING CONSTRAINTS WILL BE CONTROLLED FOR THE 2 CATEGORIES OF FABRICS BY A NUMBER OF EXPERIMENTAL TESTS PERFORMED BY CETIH.
STAGE 3
ORGANISATIONALLY THIS WILL BE ABOUT THE SAME AS STAGE 2 BUT THE STUDY WILL DEAL WITH THE RELATIONS BETWEEN FABRICS CHARACTERISTICS AND MODIFICATION OF GARMENT PATTERNS TO OBTAIN A GOOD FIT WITH DIFFERENT KINDS OF FABRICS. WHEN THIS WORK IS SUFFICIENTLY ADVANCED, THE PROGRESS OF OUR PARTNERS FROM HOHENSTEIN AND SHIRLEY WILL ENABLE US TO REALIZE A CERTAIN HARMONIZATION OF FABRIC INFLUENCE ON GARMENT SHAPE AND FIT AS WELL AS WEAR COMFORT.
STAGE 4
THIS STAGE SHOULD BE ESSENTIALLY DEDICATED TO THE SYNTHESIS AND FINAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE GUIDES TENOR TO BE PROPOSED TO MANUFACTURERS AND EXPLOITED BY EUROPEAN FACTORIES. IT SHOULD ALSO CONTRIBUTE TO THE PREPARATION OF FURTHER DEVELOPMENTS WHICH WILL PROBABLY BE GENERATED BY THIS RESEARCH.
