Objective
TO PROVIDE BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THE PHYSIOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF COMFORT AND GUIDELINES TO ENABLE TEXTILE AND GARMENT MANUFACTURERS IN THE EEC TO IMPROVE THEIR PRODUCTS WITH REGARD TO WEAR COMFORT.
THE AIM OF THE PROPOSED WORK IN PART 2 IS TO PROVIDE THE INFORMATION THAT IS URGENTLY REQUIRED ON THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE SENSORIAL ASPECTS OF CLOTHONG COMFORT AND THE PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF NEXT-TO-SKIN FABRICS, TO DEVELOP TEST PROCEDURES FOR EVALUATION OF THE SENSORIAL ASPECTS OF COMFORT, AND TO IMPROVE THE BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE, THE COMFORT MODELS, AND THE PREDICTIVE CALCULATIONS THAT HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED UP TO THE PRESENT AT THE HOHENSTEIN INSTITUT, AT SHIRLEY INSTITUTE, AND ELSEWHERE. THE TEST PROCEDURES, COMFORT MODELS, AND FORMULAE DEVELOPED DURING THE PROJECT WILL ENABLE AN OVERALL EVALUATION OF THE COMFORT CHARACTERISTICS OF CLOTHING TO BE MADE BY MEANS OF A RESTRICTED NUMBER OF COMPARATIVELY LOW COST LABORATORY MEASUREMENTS. THIS WILL OBVIOUSLY BE OF GREAT BENEFIT TO EEC MANUFACTURERS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF IMPROVED TEXTILES AND CLOTHING, SINCE EXPENSIVE WEARER TRIALS WILL NO LONGER BE REQUIRED (THIS WILL BE A MAJOR ADVANCE); IT WILL THUS HELP TO ACCELERATE THE RATE OF PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT IN TEXTILES AND CLOTHING AND REDUCE THE POSSIBILITY OF PRODUCTS BEING MARKETED WHICH FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER ARE UNCOMFORTABLE TO WEAR AND THEREFORE RESULT IN CONSUMER RESISTANCE.
