Objective
To design, manufacture, install and operate the NEDWIND-50, a 1 MW wind turbine installed in a residencial area in Groningen in order to gain further experience with such size of machines and achieve their commercialization through optimal and cost-effective design.
The NEWECS-55 is the development of NEWECS-45 installed in Wieringermeer since December 1985. The horizontal axis wind turbine has a rated power of 1,5 MW with 55 m rotor diameter and a tower height of 65 m. It has two blades with hydraulicly pitchable blade tips in order to achieve power regulation. The electric system is a variable speed AC-DC-AC system. The estimated annual yield is 3120 MWh by 8 m/s mean annual wind speed at hub height and 90% availability. During the demonstration phase an extensive measurements programme will realized by ECN and then it will be possible to evaluate the obtained results and to verify whether the initial objectives were fullfilled.
