150 KW VERTICAL AXIS WIND TURBINE AT CRES/LEGRENA IN ATTICA

Objective

To demonstrate the technical and economic viability of the 150 kW Vertical axis Wind turbine as designed by Adecon of Canada, built by Aeolos in Greece. Several parts of the wind turbine will be manufactured in Greece.
The objective is to demonstrate the possibility of exploitation of the Vertical axis Wind turbines in a reliable way, acceptable by PPC's grid and, in anticipated industrial mass production with economical cost of the produced kWh.
Wind turbine installed in December 1991.
The Vertical axis 150 kW wind turbine has been installed at Milessi, Attica. The site of the installation has an average speeds of 5-6 m/s. The 2 bladed wind turbine has an equator height of 25 m and rotor diameter of 19 m, with a total swept area of 315 sqm. Electricity will be produced by a 150 kW asynchronous generator at 1500 rpm which will be coupled to the rotor through a gearbox 47/1500 rpm and a suitable flexible coupling. The blades are constructed from parallel profiles made from extruded special aluminium alloy, which have along the blade-length the same air-foil section NACA 0018. The kind and the art of construction of the blades permits also great reliability and drastic cost reduction in comparison with the conventional blades.
The annual yield is 300 MWh assuming 90% availability.
The estimated payback time for the demonstration project is 13 years but it is expected to reduce it to 6-7 during the commercialisation and depending from the site.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
