Objective
To install an autonomous wind/diesel system for energy supply to a farm in Baix Emporda, Gerona in Spain. Innovation lies on the control system developed by Ecotecnia for optimizing, the load distribution to priority levels. The use of flywheel gives good quality for the connection transient to the generator.
Abandoned due to difficulties to find a proper site and user.
The autonomous system comprises a 30 kW wind turbine manufactured by Ecotecnia, a 20 kW disel generator, a flywheel, battery storage and a 4 kW converter. The generated electricity is used to cover domestic and farming needs such as water pumping, irrigation, water heating, lighting etc.
The wind turbine is a 30 kW, 3-bladed, stall controlled, upwind machine with 12 m rotor diameter. The aim is to cover the consumption needs following three levels of priority :
a) domestic and farming consumption,
b) water punping for irrigation and
c) heating of the installations and secondary thermic applications. Batteries should cover shorter than an hour periods of wind lack and partially periods with low level of wind. The local average wind speed is approximately 6 m/s. The estimated annual yield by the wind turbine is 62.100 kWh, resulting to a payback period of about 13 years.
