TRYSGLWYN 4 MW WIND FARM ON THE ISLAND OF ANGLESEY

Objective

To establish a viable and productive commercial windfarm on the island of Anglesey in North Wales with participation between a leading European wind turbine designer and a major windfarm developer in order to assess and demonstrate wind energy technology on a large scale and thereby to disseminate information and experience to the public, district and county planning authorities and other utilities or electricity consumers.
An operating windfarm producing electricity.
1. Develop a windfarm on working arable land in close proximity to noise sensitive housing which is acceptable in terms of environmental impact to the farmer, local residents and Local Planning Authorities.
2. Demonstrate modern windfarm development in a region which is suitable for further large scale windfarm installation in terms of wind regime and grid capacity.
3. Monitor operational noise emissions at sensitive nearby residences, compare these with theoretical estimates and carry out public opinion surveys on the perception of any noise impact.
4. Demonstrate a hybrid 2 - speed version of the Bonus Mk III wind turbine which has been specified for a lower noise output than any known comparable windfarm in the U.K.
5. Assess the effects of variable windfarm electrical output on the MANWEB distribution system.
6. Assess the acceptability of a carefully designed modern windfarm on the general public in an area of some previous hostility towards such projects.
