Objective
Demonstration of wind turbine for irrigation with pumped storage. The electricity will be used to pump water from a natural lake (9000 M3) to land 160 m higher thus allowing the irrigation of 50 hectares in Guadeloupe.
Project abandoned due to technical failure.
One horizontal axis Ratier-Figeac (RF 100) wind machine is to be installed on the Carribbean French island of Guadeloupe. The idea to use wind energy to pump water by electrical means for irrigation purposes on Guadeloupe is sound. The machine will have an asychronous type generator with nominal power 100 KW and maximum 125 KW. The cut-in windspeed will be 5m/sec and the cut-out
25 m/sec. The estimated annual yield is 313.500 KWh. Due to the high cost of the conventional KWh the project has a pay-back period of 9 years. The cost of the KWh is 1.03 F compared to the conventional cost which is, on Guadeloupe, 1.7 F. The demonstration will last from September 1986 up to August 1988, including measurements concerning the energy production and availability of the whole system, as well as the characteristics of the machine.
