ELECTRICITY GENERATION BY A 75 KW WIND TURBINE FOR AN AQUACULTURE PILOT PLAN

Objective

To generate cheaper electricity by means of a 75 kW wind turbine in order to contribute to the energy needs of aquaculture plans.

A 75 kW wind turbine manufactured by Le JELOUX is connected to the grid in order to contribute to the electricity needs of the aquaculture plan "AQUALINE". The plan is installed at Noirmoutier by IFREMER (Institut Francais pour l'Exploitation des Mers). The LJ312 wind turbine has a 3 bladed, 12 m diameter rotor based on a 30 m galvanised tower. The blades are wood epoxy manufactured also by LE JELOUX. The machine is upwind with mechanical yawing by means of two small helices. The blades are fixed to the rotor which is coupled to an asynchronous generator with maximum power of 90 kW. An innovative synchronisation system use a freewheel mechanism.
The machine is operational at the wind speed of 5 m/s, it reaches the nominal power of 75 kW at about 14 m/s and the maximum power of 103 kW at 19 m/s.
The annual energy yield is estimated to 77 MWH at a cost of about 0,65 FF/KWH which has to be compared to 0,46 FF/KWH generated by coal.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
