90 KW WIND TURBINE AT THE AKARNANIKA RELAY STATION AT AN ALTITUDE OF 1412 M

Objective

To install a 75 kW wind turbine at 1412 m, for a telecommunication Relay station. Demonstration will show whether there is interference, due to the wind turbine, and whether it is possible to replicate such kind of projects.

A VESTAS V17-75 wind turbine with a nominal power of 75 KW will be installed on the top of the Akarnanika mountain next to an important telecommunication relay station at 1412 m. The station is connected to the grid, which for climatic reasons fails during winter time and therefore energy is provided by an existing diesel generator. The diesel generator and the wind turbine will operate depending on the demand and the situation of the grid. The wind turbine is equipped with a 3-bladed, low speed, fixed pitch, stall control airfoil type rotor. It is an upwind turbine with active electric drive yaw. It has two generators, one of 19 KW and one of 75 KW (90 KW max) with V-belt drive as transmission element between the large and small generator. The 24 m lattice tower is hot galvanized and painted.
The estimated annual energy generated is 250 MWh. The estimated cost per KWh generated by the wind turbine is 4,7 DRA leading to a payback time of 6-7 years. During the demonstration it willbe possible to verify whether there is any electromagnetic interference to the relay station caused by the wind turbine. Among others the energy generated and its quality, the system's reliability and the effects on the environment and the amount of fuel saved will be evaluated. If the project proves to be successful, the H.O.T (OTE) may decide to install further machines next to other stations.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
