100 KW WIND TURBINE CONNECTED TO THE IRISH NETWORK

Objective

Examination of the reliability and availability of a new Ratier-Figeac RF 100, aerogenerator automatically controlled and connected to an electricity network in order to precisely determine the competitiveness of the wind energy supplied to the Irish interconnected network of the Electricity Supply Board (ESB).
Project abandoned due to technical failure.
A new 100 KW horizontal axis, 2 bladed wind turbines with a diameter of 18 m and 30 m tower will be constructed and installed at Bellacorick(Ireland). The Electricity Supply Board (ESB) will participate with site wind condition measurements and the connection to the local grid. The cut-in windspeed of the WT is 5 m/sec, the nominal speed 12 m/sec and the cut-out at 25 m/sec. An asychronous generator converts the kinetic energy of the wind to electricity and reaches its maximum, 150 KW, at 19 m/sec windspeed. The annual energy saving is estimated to be equivalent to 265,000 KWh (65 TOE) which corresponds to 108.650 FF/annum. Therefore the pay-back time is estimated to be 18 years due to the fact that this is a totally new fully automatic grid connected machine.
The estimated cost of the produced energy will be 0,60 FF/KWh and will be reduced to 0,45 FF/KWh when the machine is mass produced.
The demonstration phase lasts 18 months and includes the evaluation of various parameters, including the exploitation of the machine.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
