Objective
Demonstration of the technical and technical viability of the modified medium size wind turbine with an increase rated power of 400 kW. Innovative aspects of this realization include : broad range, variable rotor speed, control of the power through yaw, suitable control system and teethered hub. An increase of 25-40% of the annual yield is expected.
The new wind turbine will be design and constructed by AERITALIA and is based on the experience gained by the MEDIT-225 kW machine (see project WE/704/84/IT) and various innovative aspects will be incorporated. The machine will be installed in the province of Oristano on Sardinia. The upwind rotor is 2-bladed with a diameter of 32 m and blades manufactured by DWT (DK). The rated output will be in the range 400-500 kW and therefore an increase of 25-40% of the annual yield is expected. It has been estimated that at the site of the installation, where the mean annual wind speed is 6,5 m/s at 10 m, the annual yield will be 900 MWh. The estimated payback period for the connected plan is 9 years.
