Objetivo
The aim of the project was to demonstrate a viable wind farm development in an area of Southern Europe with very good wind conditions.
The project didl demonstrate the achievement of a cooperation development. The Danish and the Spanish manufacturers and the municipality of Tarifa agreed in the project supported by the Spanish Ministry of Energy as the long term payback price of electricity is now fixed.
The new 500 kW Nordtank windturbine is well tested and has since been installed in large scale wind farms. As Nordtank is aiming at a simple construction design to obtain low cost energy prices, and thereby always has been in front of competitive wind power production, installation of this new larger wind turbine is a further step forward.
Implementation of a new generation of wind turbines (i.e. the 500 kW range - which is an upgrading of previous models in the range of 55 to 300 kW - all well experienced).
A 6 MW wind farm comprising 12 NKT500/37 kW wind turbines has been constructed at Tarifa - Southern Spain. The wind farm is in operation producing electric power in accordance with the forecast.
This project consist of 12 pieces 500 kW wind turbines placed in a line on the ridge of Cortijos de la Joya in Andalusia close to Tarifa in Spain.
The site is a rough cliff area 1 to 3 kilometres from the strait of Gilbraltar just east of Tarifa which is the most southern point of Spain.
There has been made a minimum of road building, just enough to assure the possibility to get around with the necessary cranes and heavy vehicles for construction and erection, and maintenance and repair.
SITE PREPARATION
Soil investigations has been made on each individual site in order to assure an optimal foundation design for the local kind of soil. DESIGN
Electrical system design.
The purpose of the interconnecting system between the turbines in the park is to collect the power produced and transmit it to the utility grid. Due to local conditions and standards used, deviations may occur.
The voltage level on the low voltage side is fixed at 690 V.
DESIGN CRITERIA
The power collection system in the wind farm has been designed according to an economic optimum on the basis of total lifetime costs, including capitalized loss costs. This was made when local prices on materials, wages and energy prices were known. Reactive power compensation.
In order to avoid exchange of reactive power in the utility grid, the reactive power demand on the wind turbines must be compensated 100%.
Electrical lay out.
The main transformer supplies the service building with low voltage for auxiliary purpose via a tertiary/auxiliary winding/transformer. The high voltage distribution panel comprising circuit breaker, protecting relays, a disconnecter for the outgoing cable and the power metering equipment for the farm are placed in the service building.
Alarm signals from the transformer protection equipment are connected to the central monitoring and control system. Grid connection.
On the basis of information about the utility grid in the area the wind farm is connected to a new 66 kV ovea new 66 kV overhead line.
Each turbine is equipped with relay protection which disconnects the turbine if the frequency or voltage are oustide the ranges specified.
Civil works.
In this phase all roads and foundation will be constructed, the central control building will be build and equipped with all necessary service facilities.
All cables for the power collection system, the control system and the monitoring system will be put into the ground and the site will be ready for the erection of the turbines.
CONSTRUCTION
Construction will consist of the erection, connection and test and commissioning of the wind turbines inclusive safety and control systems.
EMISSION REDUCTION The wind farm is calculated to have an annual gross production of 22,560,000 kWh. By taking the wake loss, line loss and availability into account the net production will be 20,304,000 kWh. I.e. every year the environment will be saved for the following pollution compared to an oil fired power plant.
