Objective
The aim of the project is to design, install and operate a 3.5 MW wind farm in Monte Galletto, located on the Apennine Mountains at 950 m above the sea level, installing 10 innovative M30S2 model WECs and capable of producing about 6600 MWH/Y. The project includes the realization of an information center on renewable energies. The main purposes of such realization are :
- to acquire extensive technical and economical data for the industrial series manufacturing of this WEC model for being able to face the international markets with competitiveness aided by the closeness of the plant site to the facilities of the WEC and plant productor (Riva Calzoni);
- to initiate the diffusion of wind farms in Northern Italy based on a scheme of public private partnership;
- to respond to an effective need underlined by local municipalities to lower lacks and costs of energy and pollution in the area, insert the project in the long term programme of defence of environment "URBAN CO2" and constitute an example for a number of towns in Italy and abroad.
The plant foreseen will be located in S. Benedetto Val di Sambro (Bologna), locality of Monte Galletto at 950 m above the sea level. The site has been monitored since July 1994. The anemometrical campaign is still being performed for examining closely the data acquisition in the area assigned for the plant.
The programme for the realization of the plant is divided into five phases :
PHASE 1 - Design : Plant design activities in all their executive design of all the civil and electric works, design of monitoring system and overall evaluation of the environmental effect due to the realization of the project.
PHASE 2- Construction : Construction of the10 new M30S2 WECs by Riva Calzoni, performance of the electric and civil works (roads, lay-down area, WEC and box foundations, construction of WEC boxes and grid connection etc.)
PHASE 3 - Assembly, Installation and Erection : In such phase, the WECs on site transport activity and their installation on the foundations are foreseen, as well as the performing of all electric power and signal connections.
PHASE - Commissioning : Start-up of the WECs and of the whole plant. Such activity is successive to the plant's connection to the national grid.
PHASE - Monitoring and Diffusion Phase : Verifying of the plant operation for 24 months, monitoring the output data, the economical and maintenance aspects of the plant. During the test phase, measurements will be taken to evaluate the results. Diffusion towards similar operations in the Appenine area will permit a wide application of the project.
The estimated energy production is about 800 MWH/Y for each wind turbine. Taking into account a 10% loss due to the wake effects between the single turbines, 95% availability and 3% electrical losses, we obtain an estimation of 6600 MWH/Y for the wind farm.
