Objective
To demonstrate the techno-economic feasibility of wind turbines with hydraulic transmissions and the high energy conversion efficiency that can be realised by this concept. The hydraulic transmission constitutes the innovation. The annual electricity yield will be 118,000 kWh.
The wind turbine was installed in May 1986. Project abandoned due to the fact that the wind turbine manufacturer withdrew from its wind energy activities.
A Bohemen 80 KW wind turbine with hydraulic transmission will be constructed and installed at Winsum, the province of Groningen in The Netherlands. The hydraulic transmission together with the scaling up to 17 m of a 12 m diameter wind turbine constitute the innovation. Previous efforts concerning the hydraulic transmission were not very successful. The proposed system has an improved powerfactor and grid stability as it contributes to maintaining frequency and voltage. It also has a high potential to work as an autonomous system. The annual electricity yield will be 118,000 KWh and 13,000 KWh in thermal energy. The cost of the wind energy KWh will be 0,33 DFL which has to be compared to the 0,19 DFL of the conventional. It has to be noted that when the machine is mass produced then it is estimated that the price will drop to 0,17 DFL. During the demonstration phase it will be possible to show the success of the system and the project itself.
