Objective
To erect a 500 kW wind turbine offshore in the Ijsselmeer in order to get experience for the establishment of a 10 MW windfarm.
Further objectives of this project are :
1) to develop, implement and demonstrate a cost-effective installation procedure in conjunction with a low cost support and foundation structure.
2) to monitor through instrumentation, the effects of installation and 2-year operation, especially with respect to dynamic behaviour and ice loading in order to assess realistic structural design criteria.
3) to demonstrate the energy production level, the level of systems availability and the operational (maintenance and remote control) effectiveness and costs.
Innovation lies on the offshore site, the special foundations, the new installation procedure and the newly developed 500 kW wind turbine.
In order to realize the project's objectives a 500 kW Newinco made wind turbine will be installed offshore in the Ijsselmeer, modified according to the needs due to the specific nature of the project.
The wind turbine will be placed on a steel substructure which consists of three main components : tripod support structure, a triangular foundation frame, and three open steel tube foundation piles. Its design concept aims at a light weight structure suitable for series production, at low materials and fabrication costs and easy to handle for transportation, the assembly and the installation. The AEROTECH 34 SI500 is a two-bladed 500 kW wind turbine with a 34 m rotor diameter and a steel made tower of 39 m. The entire installation will be havily instrumented with straingauges and accelerometers in order to evaluate the behaviour of the tower, the tripod support structure, the foundation frame and the foundation piles. Further, energy yield will be recorded and evaluated.
