9 X 300 KW WIND POWER PLANT USING CARBON FIBER BLADES

Objetivo

The project consists in the installation of 9 wind turbines f.30 kW rated capacity using carbon fiber blade. This wind power plant, set up in cooperation with Electricity of France, is located on the harbour of Dunkirk (north of France) and is connected to the national grid. The use of light weight blades enables to optimize the structure of the wind turbine, decreasing global weights and increasing global capacity factor.

The 9 x 300 kW wind power plant is installed along the "canal des Dunes" in the west part of the Dunkirk's harbour. The plant is connected to the 15 kV grid of "Electricite de France", buying the electricity produced, estimated at 6927 MWh for year. The use of carbon fiber blades allows to increase rotor diameter up to 30 m without major change on the global structure of the older 25 m rotor. Expected production and capacity factor will be higher. Weight and related inertia of the rotor and drastically decreases by a factor of 2-5.
