ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION FOR WATER TREATMENT ON SARDINIA

Objective

Two 150 kW HMZ horizontal axis wind turbines will be installed and operate at Villacidro-Sardinia in order to provide the necessary electrical energy to the water treatment system of the industrial area. It will be possible to evaluate the contribution of wind energy and estimate the efficiency of such a system for industrial applications. The estimated annual yield is 525 000 kWh.
The wind turbines have been installed in May 1986. Connection with the grid took place in September 1986. The annual energy production was 200000 kWh.
Two horizontal axis HMZ 150 KW commercial wind turbines were connected to the local grid of the industrial area of Villacidro-Sardinia. The electricity was used by the 500 KW water treatment system and the excess energy requirements was provided by the grid. This project has been carried out in order to evaluate the contribution of wind energy and to estimate the efficiency of such a system for industrial applications. The total project will cost 1.169.600.000 LIT; only the part which corresponds to one machine i.e 828.100.000 LIT will be supported. The total annual yield is estimated to 525.000 KWh, with a calculated payback of 12 years. The local cost of energy (island grid) is 165 LIT/KWh while the cost of electricity produced by the wind generator is 110 LIT/KWh.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
