A Renewable Energy Development Strategy for the Borders Region of Sotland

Objective

To develop a plan/strategy for the exploitation of renewable energy resources in the Borders Region of Scotland by:
*determining in detail the potentially recoverable resource;
*recommending appropriate technologies for the development of this resource, and make information about them generally available to encourage public acceptance;
*setting out a rational approach aimed maximising the effective and practical exploitation over time of suitable sites;
*establishing the planning and development control approach to renewables;
*identifying and priming at least one demonstration project for each appropriate technology.

Executed by Garrad Hassan and Partners Ltd, the final report consists of 5 volumes:

Report 2: Resources, Capacity, Demand and Designations
Report 3: Development of a Planning Framework
Report 4: The Social and Economic Impacts of Renewable Energy and Barriers to Project development
Report 5: Potential Wind, Biomass, Hydro and Farm Waste Projects

A short leaflet summarising the outputs of the study is also available.
