BIOMASS DEVELOPMENT PLAN - A development plan for wood biomass in Ireland with electricity generation as the benchmark end use

Objective

To examine the role for developing wood biomass resources in Ireland and to produce guidelines in the context of a National Development Plan for renewable energy.

The project addresses and quantifies;

The land, biomass species, local infrastructure, organisational and investment resources required to establish a viable wood biomass industry;

The local effects relating to social/infrastructure/employment and environmental impacts;

The true economic costs and benefits of developing biomass;

The potential uses for the output of such an industry with electricity production as the primary end use;

The full costs for a development project with comparison of costs with existing fuels and production.
