Objective
Development of organizational and financial models to establish a sustainable energy supply for the large bi-national inustrial area Aachen/Heerlen. Support of Dutch-German planning procedures (urban development, wind park, biogas installation etc.).
Investigation of all possibilities of energy conservation, rational use of energy and incorporation of renewable sources.
In the first phase of project 'Future Energies', a detailed, sustainable energy concept for the industrial area Aachen/Heerlen has been developed (ALTENER 93-33). Main elements: reduction of energy demand (urban planning, architecture, information), rational use of energy (district heating system with cogeneration) and massive use of renewable energies (solar, wind, biomass). Combining these elements, CO2-neurality can be achieved.
In the second phase, emphasis is put on securing the legal basis (regional planning and building permits for wind park and biogas installation, enforcing energy standards/solar architecture etc.) and providing a safe financial and organizational support for the ambitious project. Also, realization will start in phase 2.
