Building Industry Co-ordinated Education Packages

Objective

To produce the first of a series of co-ordinating education packages on energy efficiency for building industry professionals.
Several academic institutions have expressed strong interest in running trials of BICEPS as soon as possible and two major professional institutions will be basing their CPD material on the BICEPS base material. Although the first three modules are being produced by UK
institutions, it is planned to invite other European Centres of Excellence in member states to work in collaboration with BRECSU, thus propagating across the EU the tide of agreement and co-operation which BICEPS has inspired in the UK.
The BICEPS packages are modular and can be used for post graduate training to MSc level, continuing professional development (CPD), or vocational training. The long term aim is to ensure a collaborative approach to building design and construction by architects, engineers, surveyors and builders.
A feasibility study has been carried out by Cranfield University; a joint venture study with University College, London on the development of short CPD courses; and a discussion workshop at BRE on BICEPS. Resulting from this an initial consultancy has established the structure and syllabi for the first modules; on ventilation, lighting, and facilities
management.
Initial syllabi were produced by consultants which were then circulated to several academic institutions who have expressed a strong interest in using them in the future.
Comments from the academic institutions were incorporated into each syllabus prior to going to tender for the writing of the modules themselves.
