Objective
The aim of the project is to develope a practical method of short tests procedure for periodic inspection of in use vehicle aiming at the energy efficiency of the vehicles.
A contribution to the reduction of oil products dependence and the increasing of the energy efficiency is expected from the introduction of the system. A rough estimation is that a fuel saving of the order of 3% will result. A consequent result will be the generation of a data base for the community car park.
The motor vehicle inspection system will be developed aiming at the energy efficiency of the car. The inspection procedure will be mainly consisted of a test on the roller bench which exists at the technical inspection center at Hellinikon- Athens and using real driving cudes. The evaluation of the energy efficiency of the car will be based 0n real measurements of fuel consumption and on the carbon balance of the exhaust. The measured values will be compared to reference established for each particular car by a prototype approval test.
The duration of the test, including the preparation time is about 10 minutes, which is a feasible figure for the periodic inspection of the whole car park. The whole inspection system will be consisted of the types of tests ( safety tests e.g. brakes, suspension, steering etc., emmision control, energy efficiency test) with the same inspection frequency(in principle every two years).
The project will consist of two phases:.
- The study of the test, the establishment of reference values and the acceptance criteria
- The compilation of a feasibility study for the application of a such system in the greater Athens area as well as the proposal for the additional legislation covering the energy domain.
