Route Deviation Organaizer

Objective

On-call transportation systems fit into the overall transportation system as semi-flexible systems mid-way between private car transportation and prefixed routes and time-table public transportation.
To comply whith this kind of demand, tecnically defined as 'low demand', it is necessary to arrange a set of organizational and technological tools able to optimize planning of low-demand routes harmonically integrated in the Public Transportation Companies' overall supply.

Expected results are the following:

- achieve significant energy saving, as a result of a more rational use of resource deriving from the use and optimization of route deviation lines;
- improve Public Transportation Companies flexibility in providing users whith new services. This should increase users' consenus and encourage more users to resort to public transportation;
- reduce operating costs;

Road network is broken down into links and nodes to express a simplified model of public transportation. Besides we defined a general model of operating service that can include the most part of those operating services.The general method is based on finding a right equilibrium between operating costs and service quality. The operating cost analysis pointed out the fleet size as the main variable to be minimised. To find the optimal fleet size we defined statistical models based on the average round trip time. The software component 'Solver' has been specified through the description of variables domains, constraints and objective function as requested by 'Constraint logic programming'.The software component is a set of tools easy user oriented Route Deviation Design. has been developed using Object Oriented Analysis for designing and Object Oriented Programming for prototype implementation. The user/system interface is a' GUI', which has been designed following the standards of 'CUA'.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
