Demand Side Management :Experimental Study of highly efficient electrical appliances in household use

Objective

The purpose of this proposal is to improve our knowledge of the impact of high efficiency domestic appliances when used in real conditions.
In twenty ordinary households, all existing electric domestic appliances (including lighting) will be replaced, after one year monitoring, with the best equipement available on the market. After one more year monitoring, we shall determine:
- the electricity effectively saved up on the one hand by each
domestic appliance and on the other hand by the whole household.
- how much thermal energy must be substitued for electricity in
order to compensate for the reduction of internal heat gains indu-
ced by improved efficiency of electric appliances and by direct
introduction of hot water in dish-washer.
- a better knowledge of demand for electricity (consumption, power, time and duration) for each of the appliance types monitored in every household.

This project is based on a recent development of the Diace System by Landis et Gyr, which allows a very detailed individual remote recording of each electrical appliance. Diace relies on two technologies: electronic counting and communiation through the mains or power lines. A data acquisition device is connected on the power line. All data are transmitted by modem to a computer.
Data are collected each ten minutes : power, consumption,
voltage.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
