Reduction of energy consumption and environmental pollutants emission, through demand management policies based on HOV (High Occupancy Vehicles) lanes and companies motivation actions

Objective

The aims of the project are as follows:

- Evaluation of energy and environmental benefits of the HOV lane on the N-VI highway in Madrid and extrapolate the results to be expected from the implementation of BUS lanes and HOV systems;

- Analysis of factors of greatest influence on the decision to share a journey with other people;

- Implementation of Trip Redutions Plans in order to cut down journeys to work in private vehicles wich involves the firms by means of applying demand side management measures, that will enhance the benefits of an HOV lane.

The Project will consist of the following sections:

BIBLIOGRAPHIC RESEARCH AND EX-ANTE HOSEHOLD TRAVEL SURVEY

ANALYSIS OF CHANGES IN TRAVEL PATTERNS ASSOCIATED WITH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE HOV LANES
A household travel survey is carried out in order to determine the changes induced by the new infrastructure. Also traffic variations on the corridor are followed.

PILOT PROJECT IN COMPANIES TO IMPLEMENT EMPLOYER-BASED TRIP REDUCTION PLANS
A company travel survey is carried out in order to know commuter patterns of employees, and employer attitude towards employer-based trip reduction plans. Trip reduction Plans are set up for the firms selected.

ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESMENT
Taking into account data gathered in previous phases, an energy and environmental assesment on the implementation of BUS-HOV lane in Madrid will be made.
It will be complemented with an appraisal of the effectiveness of trip reduction plans in terms of energy savings.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
