Optimum integration of daylighting components at the rehabilitation process of commercial buildings

Objective

Determination of energy saving potential of daylight in existing commercial buildings.
Investigation of architectural and engineering procedures for the integration of daylight for several types of buildings
Guidelines for building professionals on the efficient integration of natural lighting techniques
Information if building users on the optimum use of daylight in existing buildings
Production of training material for architects and engineers
Dissemination of the daylighting knowledge via workshops and seminars

The integration of daylighting components into an existing building is not a trivial task, since it may also increase the heating energy demand and the overheating problem in summer. Thus a careful calculation of the consequences of the rehabilitation is mandatory.
On the other hand, it will make sense to get a slight increase of the heating demand through the rehabilitation, if the electric current consumption is reduced appropriately. In this case the primary energy consumption might be reduced considerably at all. Thus the rehabilitation procedure must include specific architectural and energy studies. the wrk of this project will be separated into the following phases:
1. Literature review.
2. Evaluation of the data material.
3. Detailed rehabilitation study of selected buildings.
4. Development of a rating system, edition of a resource guide book.
5. Dissemination of the results.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
