Indoor environment and energy use in multi store apartment buildings

Objective

The purpose with the project is to examine the indoor environment and the energy-use in 10 to 20 apartment buildings, and try to find a connection between a sound indoor environment and low energy-use. The investigation will try to locate examples of apartment buildings, where the residents are in good health and still don't use especially much energy.

AIM AND SCOPE
This project aims to evaluate different construction methods, different heating and ventilation services, different systems, such as (combination of insulation, air tightness, heating distribution systems, ventilation systems and kind of energy), different products, different degree of prefabrication, different degree of furnishing and also contract forms, managing forms and granting forms. Especially will it consider the technical and economical level, that can be justified, and how man influences in his role as builder and as resident.
The purpose is furthermore to investigate the connection between the residents health problems and the indoor environment variables as temperature, air moisture, ventilation, effectiviness of the air change, indoor air velocities, level of carbon dioxide, particle- and gas-contamination of indoor air, level of electric ions, static electricity and more. The influence of building regulations during the years 1975-1989 will also be investigated. Measured energy use will be compared and calculated.
The investigation encloses long-line productions of apartment buildings erected during the 70-ies and 80-ies.
Buildings erected during the late 80-ies will mainly be investigated.
Buildings which have had the compulsory ventilation control, will be chosen. The result from the ventilation control will be used.
The project includes around 300 apartments in 10 to 20 apartment bulidings. Registration of energy- and water- use will be done, and also an inquiry (comparable with the big swedish investigation ELIB). In around 60 of the apartments will measurements of important indoor environment factors be done, to make a classification of the indoor environment. In these apartments will energy-use also be measured.
The whole investigation is made by prof. Christer Harrysson, who has done a similar investigation about one- family houses for the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning, during 1992-1994.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
