Energy Efficiency of Passenger Cars - Labelling and its impacts on fuel efficiency and CO2 reduction

Objective

To investigate savings, which can be realised through behavioural changes, influenced by a labelling system for newly registered passenger cars.
To evaluate the economic, energy and environmental impacts of the resulting market transformation.
To make appropiate recommendations for labelling on the basis of preliminary cost-benefit analysis.

After data collection and statistical analysis for five countries (Austria, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands) different energy/CO2 labels will be designed and pre-tested. Based on the result of the pre-test the effects of labelling on consumer behaviour are evaluated in a field test. From this evaluation recommendations are drawn for the implementation of a labelling system.
