Objectif
This report describes the progress made during the 15-month period in the execution of this present programme. All activities of the programme fall within one of the following two axis:
(I) Awareness and education of the public on electricity usage related topics, and
(ii) Refinements of the manufacturers products, i.e. domestic electric appliances, though training and adherence to the Energy Labelling procedures postulated by specific EC/Directives.
All activities of this15-month period SAVE programme fall within one of the following five Phases.
Phase I: Awareness and education of the public.
TASK 1.1. Surveys Questionnaire investigations on the domestic user behaviour related to electricity use have been undertaken early in this project. Following the analysis of these questionnaires, campaigns on the effective use of the electricity have been prepared and undertaken.
TASK 1.2. Campaigns. The catch-phrase '' Did you Know...'' has been extensively used in Informational pamphlets to introduce various informational material on the energy consumption and the economic use of a number of electricity consuming domestic appliances.
TASK 1.3 Broadcasting. Brief promotional 30-seconds spots were prepared for radio broadcasting, containing condensed practical information for various domestic electric appliances and electricity uses. These radio meassages have been broadcasted during the months September '96, November '96 and January '97.
Phase II: Personel training..
TASK 2.1. Design refinements. The absence of Greek manufacturers in the market of major domestic electric appliances with moving parts, e.g. washing machines, cleaning hovers etc., is nearly total. Thus, the design refinements studied were adressed only to the locally produced electric domestic appliances. The instructions compiled are mainly focused on the more efficient energy management of the domestic hot water, construction, installation and operation of solar and electric water heaters.
TASK 2.2. Guidelines for technicians A number of in situ visits in the premises of manufacturers of hot water tanks were realised during the time span of the project. During these visits, guidelines for the proper construction, installation and maintainance were distributed.
TASK 2.3 Training The efficient, reliable and safer operation of domestic electric appliances have been stressed in a Working and information Meeting, as well as in a number of visits to manufacturers of domestic electric and to big stores of electric domestic appliances. Material related to the above topics has been distributed. Two training workshops were held in the premises of the the Liaison of Thermo-hydraylic Installers, in which information were provided on the following: practicallities of in situ applications of various electricity saving measures in electric and solar water heaters, and analysis of the ECE Energy Labelling procedures.
Phase III: Supporting and legislative activities.
TASK 3.1. Co-operation with the Public Power Corporation (PPC). Initial contacts with the local administration of PPC have led to the formation of a working team consisting of four members.
TASK 3.2 Labelling A package containing informational material related to the aims of the present project, including Energy Labelling material from the EC directives 94/2/EC, 95/12/EC and 95/13/EC, has been broadly distributed to bodies and people directly related to domestic electric appliances.
TASK 3.3 Financial motives Financial motives for changing the old electric water heaters in all multistorey buildings possessing central space heating systems has been considered. .
Phase IV: Targeting and monitoring
Monitoring of electricity consumption in 10 houses has been materialized, by collecting data concerning the usage patterns of each electric appliance. These data have been elaborated, in order to derive values for the actual electricity consumption of all major electric appliances.
Phase V: Establishment of the Domestic Electricity Saving Office (DESO)
TASK 5.1 DESO has been formed, to provide management and coordination of the project. Free consultancy on energy related issues has been offered over the duration of the project and is also available by DESO after its completion.
TASK 5.2 Compilation of the Electricity Saving Data Bank. Selected material has been compiled in electronic archives for immediate and future uses, under the supervision of DESO.
