Market Research on the Use of Energy Efficient Lighting in the Commercial Sector

Objective

This project aims to provide market research on:

- how light is used in the commercial sector (type, wattages, the frequency of use, ...).

- where and by whom is energy efficient lighting used (customer category, motive of purchase, payback time, ...).

- how controls are used (presence control, time control and daylight control).

- what is the potential for more energy efficient lighting (shift to other lighting sources or systems and more use of controls and daylight).

Expected results are to map:

- the motivation of and attitudes towards the purchase of light sources and the barriers which appear for use of energy efficient lighting.

- the conditions and barriers which are common in EU.

- the potential for use of energy efficient lighting.

- an estimation of the energy used for lighting in the commercial sector which can be used as a baseline scenario for future energy use in forecast models.

Actions to be taken are:

- all relevant market research on lighting will be studied in order to ensure that no duplication of effort occurs.

- surveys will be performed in the participating countries in order to provide the market analysis and characterize the present market.

- meetings and discussions with manufactures, retailers, designers/architects, government agencies, utilities and user organisations in order to understand the actual situation, the future expectations, possible developments, etc.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
