Objectif
The main objectives of this project are to:-prepare, evaluate and propose retrofitting energy scenarios for museum buildings for Antiquities in Europe, define the particularities, differences and similarities amongst archaeological museums in the Mediterranean countries, evaluate the technical, economical and legislative potential for the application of retrofitting actions for the improvement of the energy efficincy and the overall environmental and spatial quality of these buildings, define a common auditing and reporting methology dealing with the energy characteristics of these buildings, propose certain practical retrofitting strategies and actions for selected case studies and inform appointed public servants, museum operators (including administrative, scientific and technical staff) and building designers on issues related to energy efficiency techniques and to the proposed actions for the particular museums.
The work is analyzed in the following phases:
Phase I: Selection of Case Studies (Defination of Strategy, Selection of Case Studies, Completion of Auditing)
Phase II: Preliminary Design (Processing of Results - Analysis, Setting of Possibilities, Setting of Targets, Setting of Alternative Design Scenarios, Selection of Design Scenarios)
Phase III: Final Design
Phase IV: Evaluation, Rating and Labelling
Phase V: Dissemination of the Results
Actions and Expected Results
Complete rehabilitation scenarios for improving the energy efficiency of museum buildings for Antiquities in the Mediterranean Countries will be established, which will assist to apply practical energy saving solutions in the existing buildings.
The results of the project could be summarised as follows:
Application of the rehabilitation scenarios will significantly decrease the energy consumption in existing museums with all the beneficial economic results for the national and EU economies. The rehabilitation directions that will be published will introduce the consept and realisation of energy efficiency in the design of new museum buildings. As most cases are retrofitted older buildings, the directions will also be extremely important for any design of a new use in an existing shell. The reduction of the social cost of energy production and transfer will have indirect economic benefits. The possible reduction of energy consumption will have a direct effect on the environment as it will reduce emissions from burning fossil fuels and from using CFC' s and HCFC's for air-conditioning. The improvement of indoor quality with the re-design of the building configuration will also affect the energy performance of the museum buildings.
