Energymanagement in schools

Objective

The project concerns the implementation of a set of measures, including a system of financal incentives, to reward energy awareness and energy-saving in schools. This aim should be embeded within the general teaching of 'Energy, Environment and Climate'. By combining multi-professional lessons with optimal external support a high rate of energy-saving should be reached.
The project will examine which factors leed to a succesful implemaentation of a system of financal incentives. The cost/benefit proportion of energy-saving measures in schools will be optimized.
Subcontractor of the project, resposible for the german part, is:
UfU e.V. Friedrichstr. 165, 10117 Berlin, Tel.: +49-30-204 35 49, e-mail: ufu-energie@ipn-b.comlink.apc.org

'Energymanagement in schools' concerns the implementation of a set of measures, including a system of financal incentives, to reward energy-awareness and energy-saving in schools.
The measures we are proposing are the following:
- Implementation of a system of financal incentives for energy-saving in schools (fifty/fifty). In this system, schools get refundet 50% of the saved costs (by their efforts of energy-saving).
- Training of teachers (continuation) in the general subject 'Energy-Environment-Climate'.
- Helping schools by the realization of lessons, pupils projects and excursions about energysaving and the use of renewable energies.
- Practical-orientated training in energy-conservation for different users, (e.g. pupils, teachers and care-takers).
This include the realization of energy prophiles of school buildings together with pupils and the development of energy strategies for schools.
- Production of a publication 'Energy conceptions for schools'.
This booklet deals with the described themes and will be printed in German and in English language.
- Development of a syllabus and lessons with the aim of integrating them in the main curriculum.
- Establishment of a local association for energy-saving in schools, to act as a contractor with the local authorithies.
The experience of other regions shows that in schools energy-savings of about 10-15% are likely to be achieved just by means of non-investive measures. These alone lead to energy-savings of about 220 MWh/a (in the field of heating and electrical uses) amounting to about 10.000 ECU/a. About 200 schools will be reached by the project, so the total saving amount to ca. 44.000 MWh/a.
According to the objectives of the proposed project, half of the saved money should be paid back to the schools. The other half should be devolved to the continuation of the project.
The systematical implementation of financal incentives for energy-saving, the provided publication in english and german language and an international conference will disseminate the project and will lead to the applicability of its results by other EC-countries.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
