Optimising energy efficiency conditions for households appliances

Objective

The objective is to decrease that part of energy consumption, which is caused by the conditions in which an appliance is used. The work is aimed to those two appliance groups - refrigeration appliances and wet appliances - which have already got their energy labelling to get full advantage of the technological achievements because the conditions in which an appliance is used and the manner in which it is used can have a considerable influence on the appliance's actual total energy consumption no matter the energy efficiency of an appliance.

The theme is divided into two topics of main interest, namely: (1) the installation and location of refrigeration appliances and (2) the operation of wet appliances, especially when using energy-saving programmes and environmentally-sound detergents in washing machines and dishwashers. The actions to reach the above objective are of a highly practical nature. Both parts are intended to be performed in a uniform manner and concurrently in each participating country. Part 1 consists mainly of 'deskwork' such as comparing the contents of requirements and guides, of interviews of experts, and in some cases of studies in households. Part 2 is more operative; researchers visit households, interview members of households, and take samples of water, dishes and textiles, and conduct some amount of laboratory analyses.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
